Yes, I enjoy making my Matcha latte so much that I made a video to show how I make it
I just wanted to show that making your own matcha latte at home can be easy, and with so much fun, because you are making one cup which suits yourself best.
I think there are 2 things encouraging me to start making my own matcha latte at home instead of buying from the cafes.
(1) I found the matcha latte selling at the cafes are way too sweet, and the matcha taste is mild. Do not get me wrong, I love sweet things, but if I am getting matcha latte, I will expect to get more matcha taste (strong umami taste)
(2) The price of a cup of matcha latte can easily cost me $6-7/cup in starbucks, yes starbucks café is easily available in Singapore, but if you want to get a cup from cafes which only sell matcha, there are not a lot of them in Singapore
So, why not make my own?
I did some searching for a good source of matcha powder, my criteria are
i. Matcha powder produced in Japan
ii. Because I will buy in bigger volume, I was hoping to get by reasonable price
After some searching, I believe I found a good source which fulfilled above 2 criteria.
I was glad about it. I was even determined that I found a good source after I used it to make my first matcha latte, it has strong umami taste and has a vibrant green color. It is a good quality matcha powder.
The price is SG$ 37.34 (SG$ 34.90 + 7% GST) for 250g
I bought it online from Matchaya and self-collected it to save delivery charge since the collection point is conveniently located near the class I am attending.
The other ingredients I need:
– Honey (I replace sugar by honey)
– Milk (I like to use Meiji milk, which is lesser milk taste; sometimes I buy rice milk which is lesser in sweetness compared to cow milk, just my personal preference)
That is all, if you want to whisk the matcha like a ‘pro’, buy a ‘Chasen’ so you can play around (kidding), so that you can break the matcha powder better.
I got myself one from Lazada.com. They shipped to my home address.
Alright, now we come to do some costing, how much is the cost to make one cup of matcha latte at home?
(Assumption: 3g of matcha powder per serving + 2 spoons of honey + 120ml of milk)
Matcha powder: $0.45
*Online recommendation is only 2g of matcha powder per serving, I like stronger matcha taste, so I always take bigger spoon of it.
So how much do I save from making my own matcha latte compared to ordering one at the café, easily $5.50/cup.
At the fact of knowing what ingredients I use and how much the cost is, I will not hesitate to intake matcha latte every day (I previously wrote about benefits I love about Matcha here)
Enjoy your matcha latte 🙂
