There are a few theories about how many days does it take for someone to form a habit, many says 21days, some says 66days.
I told myself I would make meditating my daily habit after I joined my first breath meditation session in a meetup group hold by Gladys, it was 8th Jan 2017, I wrote a post about it here
I am still grateful to have attended her breath meditation session, she made me felt so easy to get into meditating state (except the numbed legs due to the 50min sitting). I was since meditating each day till now, I do not count how many days I have been meditating, but I know it is exactly 3 months, and it should be enough for me to say I have formed the habit to meditate each day.
Of course, I did not form this habit without reasons.
Meditating has done the part in many ways to help me improving my living conditions.
I wrote this post to be review how much I am benefited from meditation, and I know I will get much more from now on from this habit.
Then:
I started practicing it because I could not get good sleep at nights, I did not find out the main reason for this problem. But what I knew was I always got too many things in mind whenever I was on bed, I just could not prepare myself well to rest, to sleep. There was a long time I was having insomnia, and once I fell asleep, I usually had dreams which stopped me from getting deep sleeps. I sprained my neck for a few times, waking up in the next morning and had to see doctor. This problem made me so desperate to find a solution for it.
My second hope practicing meditation was to to gain better self-awareness, I found my mind was always distracted and bothered by many small things, not important stuff, which if I do not know how to cast them out and recognise how unimportant they are, I am never going to live my days in peace. It was a big expectation that I could achieve this but I was having faith that I would get to that state.
Now:
About the trouble sleeping well, I still could not make sure I get good quality sleep every night, however the situation has been much better compared to before. I managed to learn how to calm my mind when I am heading to bed for sleep. I believe meditation has helped me so much in this problem.
About my second hope to get better awareness, I am having a good progression. Of course I would still sometimes be distracted by things happened around me, or stress I got from work, from life. But whenever I meditate, it acts like a cleansing process (for my mind), I feel that I am kicking those small worries, unimportant thoughts out. This has made my days easier than ever.
I meditate 10-30 minutes everyday, and I looked forward to write again about what other benefits meditation can bring to my life, because I think reviewing a habit is as important as forming one.
