I could not say that I am not disappointed with my race time in Sundown marathon 2017. I was targeting to beat my PB.
It does not kill my spirit to achieve my target in future but I wish to analysis my run.
I know there were a few things which I did not do well to prepare myself better for this run.
- I did not train enough for 21km, although I ran 3-4 times a week before this event, I never ran any distance longer than 10km
- I was 10mins late to the event, was lost on the way to the location and trying to look for the parking lot, so I got not enough time to prepare myself better. Because I was late, I was joining the last wave of runners, and I was not able to be at the front batch, I was not able to run smooth due to the crowd, it made my 1st km to be very slow (9min)
- I did not intake enough carbohydrates before the run, I was feeling hungry at the middle of the run, I though energy gel would be enough, but I was lack of energy
I started to slow down at the from my 14th km, about 7min/km, and the hardest part for me was the uphill highway, I was walking up the whole bridge, that was around 20th km.
My right tight muscle started to cramp, I was trying very hard to keep running to complete the last 1~km. I felt blessed I completed the run.
This was my first time taking part in Sundown marathon, I realized my body may not be used to run at the midnight, so this probably will be my last time to join it.
