I think the last time I meditated, it was 8 years ago.
I remember I used to meditate when I was still a student, I enjoyed meditating, and I know how much it could help to calm down my mind.
I guess I just did not pick up meditation as my habit, it should not be too late to start it all again, as I know how much I needed to cut down the unnecessary thoughts everyday.
I took my first step to join my first meditation group (from meetup.com), the co-organizer (Ms Gladys Lee) is a certified ‘breathworker’ (her website) and she organised the free breath meditation for everyone who is interested. I joined my first today.
It was hold in a yoga room. The atmosphere (quiet, dim light, nice scent) was just perfect to meditate. There were around 20 people in the room and everyone was friendly. Ms Gladys did a great job to welcome newcomers.
Very soon, everyone were into mood to meditate, with the soothing music. I was very soon able to get into the meditating state. I could feel the energy in both my palms (holding together), just like how Ms Gladys said before the group meditation started. I think the energy also came from the people around who are meditating at the same time.
However, my legs started to get numb after sitting for around 20 minutes, I stretched them a little then continue the meditation. After another 20 minutes, the numbness came again. I have to say it distracted me. It might be too long for me to start with a 50 minutes long meditation. But overall, it was such a great start.
I could feel a peace of mind right after the session, especially the energy flowing in my body and contained in my palms, it was amazing experience for me.
The meditation is easy to start with, just a summary on what Ms Gladys said: sit with the legs crossed, palms locked in front of body, relax your body and take deep breaths to relax your mind, forget about perfect posture first, do not need to force yourself to ‘not think of any thought’ (because the more you think of that, more thoughts will come to you). If the legs are really in pain due to long unmoved sitting, you can stretch and straighten your legs but keep both ankles crossed (to keep the energy contained, when we open our eyes, open our palms or move our body, energy will flow out from body).
Update: I have made this my habit, now I meditate everyday 🙂
